The ISMNs allocated in Slovenia are included in the bibliographical accounts of our national printing production. It has proven very problematic for the national library to obtain legal deposit copies from publishers, especially from small and obscure printing houses. Of the 291 music publications (45 with ISMNs) intended for publication in Slovenia in 1999 (data based on CIP), for example, only 62 (29 with ISMNs) have been legally deposited. We do realise that it takes a while for publications to come out in print. Once the ISMN system is more widely spread, the library will be able to stay more informed about the publication situation in the country and will increasingly be able to use the ISMN as a tool for obtaining legal deposit copies.
