The Sri Lanka ISMN Agency was established in 1997 as a part of the Documentation Division of the National Library and Documentation Centre. The National Agency was transferred to the publication division of the National Library and Documentation Services Board on October 1, 2000. The Agency consists of an Assistant Librarian and a Library Assistant under the supervision of a Deputy Director. The Director General of the National Library and Documentation Services Board is the Administrator of the ISMN Agency.
Until August 2018, 140 registrant identifiers were assigned.
