7. Report on IAML (by Pamela Thompson)

It was members of IAML, the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres, who first devised in the United Kingdom the idea for an International Standard Music Number. IAML has about 2000 members around the world in over 60 countries on all continents. It is a professional association for music libraries and represents the interests of members in public, academic, broad casting and orchestral libraries, as well as in composer centres and archives. It also has commissions for cataloguing, bibliography, audio-visual materials, archives, and service and training, and has joint projects with the International Musicological Society to document musical sources (RISM), music literature of all kinds (RILM), musical iconography (RidIM) and music periodicals (RIPM). IAML produces its journal Fontes Artis Musicae four times a year and has an electronic newsletter on its website (http://www.cilea.it/music/iaml/iamlhome.htm).

In 2001, IAML's 50th anniversary will be celebrated at its annual conference in Périgueux. We will be joined by colleagues from other international associations with whom we have long been associated, including a representative from ISMN.
